BlackBerry Smartphone App for Buy Books at Barnes&Noble
Use this smartphone app to buy books online. This Buy Books app is a nice addition to your favorite smartphone apps because it allows you to purchase books from a leading book retailer Barnes&Noble by simply scanning the cover or barcode of a book which you might find at a friend's house or at a shopping venue. Upon download completion, the system will automatically install the Buy Books app which should appear in your smartphone's Applications list.
Requirements for running Buy Books on BlackBerry smartphones:
- The smartphone must be running BlackBerry OS 5.0 or higher.
- The smartphone must have networking access to the Internet.
- The smartphone must have an SD card for external media storage.
- The smartphone must have a camera preferably with auto-focus.
- Set the Input Simulation option for the Buy Books app to Allow.[1]
It is better to have smartphone screen size of 320x480 (HVGA) or higher. 240x320 (QVGA) is okay with smartphone in landscape orientation.

It is very important to take a focused picture. A book cover is typically large enough such that auto-focus will ensure a focused picture. When dealing with a small barcode image, you may need to have the camera lens very close to the barcode image. If auto-focus is not delivering a focused picture, set your smartphone camera to manual-focus mode and set the distance manually to ensure a focused picture.
Suggest Books
If your book cover scan does not produce a match in the Buy Books database, suggest your books via this site's feedback page or via the smartphone app as shown below.
Operating the BlackBerry Smartphone Camera
Tap the camera icon to take a picture of the book cover or barcode. Then press the BACK button on your BlackBerry smartphone to submit the picture for processing.
BlackBerry Smartphone Permission Setting
[1] You must have the Input Simulation permission set to Allow. If not, the BACK button will not function properly for the Buy Books app with two possible consequences:
- For camera operation, the BACK button does not submit the picture for processing.
- The BACK button does not return to the previous page in the app.
To resolve this:
- Set the Input Simulation option to Allow.
- Re-install the Buy Books app onto your Blackberry smartphone.
Use the Options app and select Device - Application Management. In the Application Management screen, use the Menu button and select Edit Default Permissions for the Buy Books app. In the Permissions: Default screen, expand the Interactions group and set Input Simulation to Allow.
